Working with Trauma with Emotionally Focused Therapy with Individuals and Couples (EFIT and EFCT)
EFT is an attachment science-based approach to working with individuals (EFIT), couples (EFCT) and families (EFFT) that offers an integration of humanistic experiential interventions focused on reshaping intrapsychic experience and systemic interventions focused on reshaping patterns of engagement with significant others. Emotion has precedence given its powerful role in structuring both inner experience and motivation and key interactional patterns in relationships. Emotion links and organizes core experience and interaction.
EFT is best known as a potent couple intervention but has always, from its inception, been used in clinical practice with individuals, especially with clients dealing with depression, anxiety and trauma and stressor-related disorders.
This Webinar will provide a brief introduction to the theory and practice of EFT in working with individuals and with couples who are struggling with the echoes of trauma. The focus will be on understanding the impacts of trauma and core models of health and dysfunction from an attachment perspective, the primary of emotion and the creation of a safe haven and secure base alliance. The systematic sequence of interventions – the EFT Tango – will be reviewed, as well as more micro-interventions. Didactic presentation will be accompanied by the viewing of sessions with related commentary.
At the end of the Webinar, participants will have become familiar with:
• the key elements of the attachment perspective on personality and its significance for clinical intervention, with individuals and with couples
• how EFT sets out clients’ within and between cycles, how these create each other and link to presenting problems that manifest as emotional disorders and/or relationship distress
• the implementation of the 5 EFT Tango moves in shaping corrective emotional experiences that impact trauma resolution and attachment security
Please note that you will benefit more from this training if you have completed the EFT Externship.
