As couple therapists we know well that broken trust is one of the most common reasons for partners to seek Couple Therapy. However, they usually refuse to discuss an old injury because it is too painful and could destroy the last threads of hope . That is a challenge and a hurdle for the therapist who is often wondering how he will work together with those couples.
Attachment Injury Resolution Model (AIRM) that was developed by Johnson, Makinen& Millikin (2001), is a validated model on Attachment Injury Resolution. A guide for the therapist – a small model into the larger of EFT. It consists of 8 steps and deals only and specifically with the traumatic incidence through a sequence of responsive dialogs between the hurt partner and the other one. The Resolution of an Attachment Injury is much more than a conscious apology. After the corrective connecting experience that reforms the relationship, the partners’ world becomes more secure and safe.

Lorrie Brubacher M.Ed., LMFT, RMFT is the Founder and Director of the Carolina Centre for EFT. Lorrie has been an individual, couple & family therapist since 1989. Lorrie is a highly regarded international trainer in EFT. She has published with Dr Susan Johnson, and has written a book Stepping into Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy: Key ingredients of change (Routledge, 2018). In addition to teaching EFT Externships and Core Skills she provides advanced training in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy and Attachment Injury Resolution.
